SEAGATE ST6000DM001 6TB DESKTOP INTERNAL HARD DRIVE
Over the past couple of years, Seagate have been hard at work to present consumers and enthusiasts with top of the range HDD drives and it’s yet another time to review one of the first 6TB HDDs to hit the market. They have been producing high quality HDDs specially built for enthusiasts and it’s time these SATA HDD drives get to see the consumer market. The Seagate Desktop HDD 6TB 128MB is no exception and it seems it’s not only great on paper but lives up to our expectations and exceeds our expectations in some test results. The Seagate Desktop HDD 6TB 128MB was put to test against the most powerful 4GB variants and it seems like a very good upgrade if you are still using an old HDD drive.
What can you do with 6000 Gigs in your desktop? A lot, and that’s why the high capacity hard drives were initially reserved for the enthusiast. At the most, a 1TB hard drive or SSD would be enough for the average user. Nevertheless, people in the media and other professionals where they need to transfer large files often would find the Seagate Desktop HDD 6TB 128MB or other high capacity hard drives very useful.
A few years back, the Seagate Desktop HDD 6TB 128MB could easily have been named the best drive on the market but with newer and faster SSDs on the market; it’s not suitable to mention it with the 13TB drives on the same breath. However, it remains one of the best performing HDDs on the market right now and probably the best from last year. There are a few issues with random write speeds but that’s just the worst thing you will be hearing about this drive. It’s a performance leader in this niche market especially when compared to the 4TB HDDs that it succeeds.
The Seagate Desktop HDD 6TB 128MB’s construction is solid but the drive seems to overheat when presented with the most demanding tasks. Nevertheless, you need to remember that it runs six platters at 7200RPM and so just allow enough airflow and things will be good. When we are on the platters, 6 of them meant more noise but fortunately the drive seems to be very silent and only produced little noise when under extreme loads.
All in all, there’s very little to complain about the Seagate Desktop HDD 6TB 128MB and it is really worth a try if you are looking to upgrade to a higher capacity HDD. On the flip side, you should be ready to spend a considerable amount of money for this beast. Nevertheless, it’s completely worth it especially when talking terms performance and speed. I would recommend the Seagate Desktop HDD 6TB 128MB to anyone looking to advance in terms of performance and capacity. This HDD is totally worth a try if you are not ready to jump into the Solid State Drive bandwagon just yet or your rig isn’t compatible with the PCie SSDs on the market today.
