The Intel Core i7-6800K processor enables simultaneous, compute intensive, multi-threaded workloads, powered by 6 cores and 12 threads. Emerse yourself in the delivery of platform scalability to meet exacting demands with up to 28 PCIe 3.0 lanes and support for high speed storage, up to 4 discrete graphics cards, and Thunderbolt technology. This Core i7 processor support quad channel DDR4 memory, boast up to 15MB of Intel Smart Cache, and is fully unlocked for unleashed performance. Finally, the Intel Core i7-69xx/68xx processor family is the first to feature the NEW Intel Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0, dynamically boosting the processor frequency to deliver maximum application performance.
Intel has this somewhat strange feeling separation of ‘mainstream’ and ‘enthusiast’ platforms, with a release cadence and model names that are sure to confuse the uninitiated. Take the Core i7-6700K, a “6th Generation Intel Core” part that launched last year, codenamed Skylake; that’s not too confusing, though without searching out performance charts you can’t really tell how fast the part is just by its name. Now compare that with the Core i7-6800K. You might assume that this is also a 6th Gen part, but it’s actually 5th Gen Broadwell-E. And which part is faster depends on what you’re actually doing. We’ve already covered all of the major points of interest for, but today we’re going to provide the executive summary, focusing on the ‘budget’ entrant for Broadwell. We’ll include a few charts highlighting the overall performance picture, but if you want additional low-level details we’ll refer you back to the earlier article.
